History of HOLLYWOOD Sign

I am sure that everyone has ever seen the big white sign on the top of the hill in Hollywood, Los Angeles before.

The sign HOLLYWOOD is the great symbol of the greatest entertainment city in the world called Hollywood. But how many knows the original purpose of the sign? Not many right?

The HOLLYWOOD sign was first built in 1920 and the full sign is originally read HOLLYWOODLAND with the purpose to advertise some real estate projects in Hollywood city.
The sign became more popular when a hollywood actress name Peg Entwistle committed suicide by jumping off the letter H.

Few years later, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce decided to remove the last four letter (LAND) to save electrical cost because the sign has to be illuminated during the night at the Chamber's cost.
The sign is renovated and fixed many times before it became the current version.

Smart For-Us- Smart Pick-up

Quirky microcar brand Smart is to debut a pickup concept at the forthcoming North American International Auto Show, it announced December 7.

The Daimler-owned brand, well known in Europe and the US for its small city cars, is stretching its ambitions one step further with the 'For-Us' concept, an all-electric model which will premiere at the Detroit show (January 9-22).

A far cry from conventional pickups such as the Ford F-Series, the For-Us probably wouldn't hold much, but includes a cargo floor large enough to carry two bikes -- or two Smart eBikes, a nod at Daimler's forthcoming two-wheeled mobility solution.

When docked on the For-Us, the eBikes can be charged, Smart said in the statement, allowing drivers to make sure that they have enough juice on both two and four wheels.

The rest of the vehicle is dominated by Smart's distinctive styling, although the wheelbase has been lengthened by nearly 60 centimeters to give a 90 centimeter-long cargo area.

Inside, the cabin has been given aerodynamic styling, with a smartphone mount connected to a rear video camera acting as a high-tech replacement for the rear-view mirror.

The car will debut at the forthcoming North American International Auto Show, one of the biggest events of the year which will see new production models and concepts from automakers around the world.

Scientists isolate amazing magnetic bug

A new kind of magnetic bug could open the way to biotech and nanotech uses, which scientists have identified, isolated and successfully grown, reveals a study.

Magnetotactic bacteria are simple, single-cell organisms that are found in almost all water bodies. As their name implies, they orient and navigate along magnetic fields.

This is due to the nano-sized crystals of magnetic minerals magnetite or greigite they produce. They make their internal crystals, called magnetosomes, useful in drug delivery and medical imaging, the journal Science reported.

While many magnetite-producing bugs can be grown and easily studied, researcher Dennis Bazylinski and team from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, were the first to cultivate a greigite-producing species. Greigite is an iron sulphide mineral, the equivalent of the iron oxide magnetite.

"Because greigite-producing bacteria have never been isolated, the crystals haven't been tested for the types of biomedical and other applications that currently use magnetite," said Bazylinski, according to a university statement.

Researchers found the greigite-producing bacterium, called BW-1, in water samples collected more than 280 feet below sea level in Badwater basin, on the edge of Death Valley National Park in US.

Christopher Lefevre from the University of Aix-Marseille II, France, and Bazylinski later isolated and grew it leading to the discovery that BW-1 produces both greigite and magnetite.

A detailed look at its DNA revealed that BW-1 has two sets of magnetosome genes, unlike other such bacteria, which produce only one mineral and have only one set of magnetosome genes.

Top 5 health benefits of having apples

We have all heard about the benefits associated with apples and most of us relish its refreshing, unique flavor but how many among us really know what makes apples such a recommended fruit or dietary item? Yes, apples have offer ease of portability and are packed with nutrition associated with fruits in general but you need to read the following to realize why apples are such an awesome addition to your daily diet:

1. Apples Keep You Smarter, Even in Old Age
Apples are proven to have a role in the better functioning of the brain. It has been established through various researches that apple, if consumed regularly as a fruit or juice, keeps the mind sharper. It is packed with certain plant chemicals that can even prevent the onset of neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s that are essentially a state of decreased mental acuity. Regular intake of apples is known to have a regulatory effect on critical neurotransmitters of the brain like acetylcholine. In fact, apples are recommended as a fruit of choice for people who are suspected of progressing towards Parkinson’s, another condition linked with reduced mental capabilities. Apples contain compounds that cannot be mimicked by pharma companies and are capable of raising the immunity of the neurons (nerve cells).

2. Apples: Nature’s Own Anti-Cancer Solution
Scientists from various medical research facilities have confirmed that apples have a definitive anti-carcinogenic effect. Some folks might argue that it is not assured against which type of cancer and in what manner apples contribute in this regard. However, it should be remembered that we don’t have any drug or medicine to cure or prevent cancer, i.e. the global medical fraternity can only partially curb cancerous growths and impair its progression. So, doesn’t it make sense to avert chances of being inflicted with this deadly disease by merely eating a tasty fruit regularly?! Certain biochemicals found in apples, like flavonoids and triterpenoids, are widely regarded behind the fruit’s anti-cancer properties.

3. Apples Are Established Diabetes Busters
Diabetes is the precursor to a series of highly damaging health conditions like cardiovascular problems, stroke and high blood pressure. Apple contains soluble fiber. This kind of fiber plays a vital role apart from regulating your digestion, i.e. it retards the faster uptake of sugars in the body. This helps in preventing and managing diabetes. Some medical facilities have indicated that eating apple on a daily basis can reduce chances of developing type 2 diabetes by nearly 25% among women.

4. Managing Weight is Easier with Apples
If you think about weight management solutions that allow you to gorge on sweet, flavored foods, apple should surface at the top of your options. This is the best fruit to manage cholesterol. As explained, the soluble fiber in apples helps to impair the absorption of fats from the intestines. Pectin is one such fiber that is found in appreciable quantities in apples. Polyphenols in apples are among nature’s strongest antioxidants and tend to reduce the toxic nature of cholesterol deposits, preventing plaque deposition within the blood vessels.

5. Apples for Better Gastrointestinal Health
Apples are the most recommended fruit for folks suffering from a range of gastrointestinal problems. This includes serious problems like gallstones that are formed due to excessive cholesterol in the bile. Foods high in soluble fiber and antioxidants, such as apples, are the perfect remedy for preventing painful gallstones. Apples are also a handy aid for resolving repeated bouts of constipation and diarrhea. Apple’s natural fibers aid greater absorption of water, regulating the movement of digested food through the intestines. Stressful lifestyles often lead to IBS—Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This irritating and highly debilitating stomach-related ailment can cause bloating and abdominal pain and is best managed with regularly eating apples.

Aakash tablet delayed to shipping

Those who booked the Aakash tablet, earlier this month will have to wait until next year to lay their hands on it. This cheapest tablet in the world had its units completely sold out within a week when it was made available for purchase by Datawind. The device was expected to reach customers within seven days, but now they will have to wait until January 2012, reports ZeeNews.

Aakash makers had announced a contest to craft apps for the Aakash for enthusiastic students across the nation. Ubislate makers have also inked an agreement with Nasscom, as a part of which 200 tablets will be distributed across several NGOs across the nation.

The new, upgraded version of Aakash will run on Android 2.2 and a spec sheet is expected too include 7-inch resistive touchscreen, Cortex A8-700MHz processor, HD video processor, 256 MB of RAM, 2GB of internal memory, support for GPRS and Wi-Fi, a USB port, 3.5 mm audio jack. Apparently, a much upgarded tablet attached with a Rs.400 keyboard is also expected to be in the pipeline at a cost of Rs.3,400.

Stay away from Anger... It hurts ... Only You!!!

The Buddha explained how to handle insult and maintain compassion. One day Buddha was walking through a village. A very angry and rude young man came up and began insulting him. "You have no right teaching others, he shouted." You are as stupid as everyone else. You are nothing but a fake."

Buddha was not upset by these insults. Instead he asked the young man "Tell me, if you buy a gift for someone, and that person does not take it, to whom does the gift belong?"

The man was surprised to be asked such a strange question and answered, "It would belong to me, because I bought the gift."

The Buddha smiled and said, "That is correct. And it is exactly the same with your anger. If you become angry with me and I do not get insulted, then the anger falls back on you. You are then the only one who becomes unhappy, not me. All you have done is hurt yourself."

"If you want to stop hurting yourself, you must get rid of your anger and become loving instead. When you hate others, you yourself become unhappy. But when you love others, everyone is happy."

The young man listened closely to these wise words of the Buddha. "You are right, o Enlightened One, "he said. "Please teach me the path of love. I wish to become your follower."

The Buddha answered kindly, "Of course. I teach anyone who truly wants to learn. Come with me."

UbiSlate7 Tablet in Rs 3000

Five reasons why you should Skip Aakash and buy the UbiSlate7 (Aakash 2) tablet for Rs. 500 more.

Connectivity

On connectivity front, the original Aakash only supports Wi-Fi. It's notable that the several parts of India still do not have access to networking options such as Wi-Fi. One of the main ideas behind the Aakash was to bridge the gap between the rural India and technology. The Aakash tablet with its limitation to the Wi-Fi networking options is unlikely to meet the purpose.

On the other hand, the UbiSlate 7 supports both GPRS and Wi-Fi. It also has support for optional 3G modems. Two full-sized USB ports are integrated into the unit allowing pen-drives, external keyboards, web-cams and dongles. The UbiSlate 7 is likely to see more usability in the rural India.

Battery life

Battery life is an important criteria for the mobile devices. The Aakash tablet comes with a 2,100 mAh battery, which is rated to deliver up to 3 hours of backup, depending upon usage. The UbiSlate 7 comes with a better 3,200 mAh battery.

Performance

The Aakash runs on Android 2.2 Froyo operating system and is powered by Arm11 – 366MHz processor. The tablet has a seven-inch resistive touch display with 800x480 pixels resolution. It has 256MB of RAM. The UbiSlate 7 runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and is powered by a better Cortex A8 – 700 MHz processor. The UbiSlate 7 is most likely to come with a capacitive touchscreen.

UbiSlate 7 is a phone

The UbiSlate 7 is not restricted to just browsing, as its SIM functionality also extends to voice calls. The SIM functionality is certainly going to appeal a lot of Aakash enthusiasts. The original Aakash has no such feature.

Android Market

The Aakash tablet does not support access to the Android Market, which means a lot of apps, ranging from educational and entertainment, will not be available on the device. The Aakash does support document formats: DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX, ODT, ODP, and can also run a PDF viewer and text editor. However, access to the apps could have been a major advantage. DataWind may address the limitation in their UbiSlate by providing access to the Android Market or pre-load some more apps in the device.

Android market

There are now over 700,000 Android devices activated every day.
That was the to-the-point statement posted to Andy Rubin’s Google+ page last night. No chest-beating or additional stats to explain the ever-growing pool of Android customers was necessary. 700,000. The number speaks for itself.
It was only a few months ago that Google was touting that it activates more than 550,000 devices each day. And a few months before that, the daily Android activation total was only 350,000. Since Eric Schmidt’s announcement of that numbering February, the number of new Android devices has doubled in 9 months.
We expected Google to reach 1 million daily activation's based on Rubin’s previous comments about week-over-week growth. However, Android has progress only halfway to that number. Still, it’s an impressive feat that clearly shows Android is running away from competition in terms of volume. The number would be even higher if it included non-Google sanctioned Android products like the Barnes & Noble Nook and the Amazon Kindle Fire.
Believing that Android’s growth rate will have to taper off eventually – hey, there are only so many people looking for a new phone – we theorized that the number of daily activation's will not rise like it has in H1 2011. That thought was strengthened by analyst firm Needham & Co. suggesting that the iPhone’s arrival on Verizon put a small dent in Android’s U.S. market share, and Nielsen reporting today that Android is losing ground among recent smartphone buyers. Considering that more Verizon customers who may have been waiting on the iPhone will be eligible for upgrades later this year, and new smartphone customers may be swayed into Apple’s corner because of i OS 5, it stands to reason that Android may not be as much of a runaway success as it has been.

Seagate now officially owns Samsung's hard drive business

Seagate Technology, a major maker of hard drives, said Tuesday that it had closed on the acquisition of the hard drive business of Samsung Electronics for $1.4 billion.

The merger, which was announced in April, is both a talent and product acquisition, Seagate said. The agreement gives Seagate select elements of Samsung’s hard drive business, including Samsung’s high-capacity M8 hard drives and semiconductors used to make solid-state drives, (known in the industry as S.S.D.’s). Some senior managers and design engineers of Samsung will join Seagate.

Stephen J. Luczo, Seagate’s chief executive, said in a statement that Seagate and Samsung had aligned product development to get new products ready faster. “It is an exciting time in the industry with rapidly evolving opportunities in many markets, including mobile computing, cloud computing and solid state storage,” he said.

The acquisition will benefit Seagate in light of this year’s Thailand floods, which destroyed factories that produced hard drive parts, said Steve Duplessie, an analyst with the Enterprise Strategy Group.

“Most of the world’s disk drives are not able to be built because Thailand is underwater,” Mr. Duplessie said, but Samsung’s production chain was for smaller, consumer disk drives, and it was not affected by the flood. Seagate should have an advantage against its major competitor, Western Digital, he said.

Samsung’s specialty in producing flash memory (also known as NAND) is another crucial benefit for Seagate, said Jim Kelleher, an analyst with Argus Research. Newer, thinner notebooks, like Apple’s MacBook Air and ultrabooks made by PC makers like Hewlett-Packard, use flash memory for storage.

Mr. Kelleher said, “This is a good deal for Seagate, as it provides a link with a leader in NAND flash at a time when Seagate must move into S.S.D.’s.” He said that without the deal, Seagate risked losing its dominance in supplying drives for PCs.

Have you heard of cylinder's expiry date?....

Do you know that there is an expiry date (physical life) for LPG cylinders?
Expired Cylinders are not safe for use and may cause accidents.
In this regard, please be cautious
at the time of accepting any LPG cylinder from the vendor.

Here is how we can check the expiry of LPG cylinders:
On one of three side stems of the cylinder, the
expiry date is coded alpha numerically as follows
A or B or C or D and some two digit number following this e.g. D06.

The alphabets stand for quarters -
1. A for March (First Qtr),
2. B for June (Second Qtr),
3. C for Sept (Third Qtr),
4. D for December (Fourth Qtr).

The digits stand for the year till it is valid. Hence
D06 would mean December qtr of 2006.

Please Return Back the Cylinder

that you get with a
Expiry Date, they are prone to Leak and other
Hazardous accidents...

The second example with D13 allows the cylinder
to be in use until Dec 2013 .
Kindly pass this to
every one,

and create awareness
among the public.

The most powerful group at Google Inc  used to be known simply as 'The OC,' short for operating committee. Now, it goes by a more telling name: L Team, short for Larry's Team. The new members of this team are... The change is more than a mere rebranding after Google co-founder
Larry Page became chief executive nine months ago, reclaiming a title he last held in 2001. Page has moved quickly to remake the company in his image, and this influential group is responsible for plotting strategic priorities, such as social networking and mobile computing.
In the revamping of the group earlier this year, Page swapped out several of the executives who previously had seats at the table and brought in managers spearheading key initiatives.

Among the new members of Page's cabinet are social networking head Vic Gundotra, Android mobile chief Andy Rubin and YouTube head Salar Kamangar, according to people familiar with the matter.

Page meets regularly with the team, which also includes Google's top finance and legal executives and is now internally called the L Team, to discuss, evaluate and approve their plans, from acquisitions to new products.

"All major decisions flow through that group," said one of the people, speaking anonymously because of the confidential nature of the topic.

The new team was appointed around the time that Page took over as CEO and reorganized the company's management structure. In addition to placing directors of key product groups under his direct supervision, and giving those groups more leeway to operate autonomously, Page transformed the operating committee into the L Team, a move not reported until now.

A Google representative declined to comment on the changes Page made to the team. The company also declined to make executives available for interviews.

The revamp is part of Page's efforts to make the world's No. 1 Web search engine more nimble and competitive amid a shifting technology landscape in which Google is increasingly battling heavyweights like Apple Inc  and Facebook.

To make room for his new advisers, Page chose to remove some well-known and powerful executives from the inner circle instead of expanding it, according to the sources.

They said the executives who have left the group include Marissa Mayer, the head of Google's local, maps and location services business; Rachel Whetstone, its London-based global communications and public affairs chief; and Shona Brown, who previously oversaw business operations and now heads the company's philanthropic arm.

Mayer's membership within the group was particularly short-lived. The former head of Google's flagship search product and user experience was appointed to the operating committee in October 2010, roughly around the time she was assigned a new job overseeing Google's local business.

But she and other executives Page moved out of his inner circle were not completely sidelined, the sources said. Mayer still has a "huge job," said another person familiar with the matter. Whetsone was promoted to senior vice president in April.
The changes to the group reflect the shifting influence within Google's top ranks, said first source, who added that changes were natural with a new CEO in place.

"I think Larry was thoughtful about how he approached this, and I don't know of too many bruised egos. Some change is expected to happen when the power center shifts," the source said.

Page did retain some members of the original "OC," including finance chief Patrick Pichette, Chief Business Officer Nikesh Arora and Chief Legal Officer David Drummond.

It was unclear if Eric Schmidt, who ended his 10-year stint as CEO to become Google's executive chairman, and co-founder Sergey Brin have formal roles on the L Team.

Schmidt is often traveling as part of his new role, while Brin focuses on advanced research projects that are less directly related to the day-to-day business.

Founded by Page and Brin in 1998, Google has grown into a corporate behemoth, with roughly $29 billion in revenue last year and nearly $43 billion in cash and securities on its balance sheet as of the end of September.

While Google has dominated Internet searching for a decade, the company has struggled to find its footing in social networking, with Facebook, Twitter and other start-ups stealing Web traffic and engineering talent.

Under Page's watch, Google has launched its most ambitious challenge to Facebook's social networking dominance with the Google+ social network.

In August, Google said it would acquire mobile phone company Motorola Mobility Inc  for $12.5 billion, a deal that allows Google to add hardware capabilities to its Android smartphone software.

At the same time, Page has pruned the company's sprawling portfolio of products, eliminating projects involving green energy and health among others, even as headcount has swelled to more than 31,000 employees.

"More wood behind fewer arrows" is how Page described his approach, when speaking to analysts on a conference call this summer.

"Focus and prioritization are crucial given our amazing opportunities," he said, noting that Google had substantially increased its "velocity and execution" with its new management structure.

Elizabeth Taylor collection Auction at record price

It's one of the richest, most extravagant auctions you'll ever see. The best of Elizabeth Taylor's famous jewelry was sold off Tuesday night, setting a world record for a single collection.

More items from Taylor's estate were to go on sale Wednesday at Christie's auction house in New York. And if you're thinking of bidding, you'd better have deep pockets.

The collection has already brought in a record $116 million. And nearly every sale far surpassed its estimated price.

Taylor's historic 50-carat pearl alone sold for nearly $12 million. And one of the crown jewels of her estate -- the Krupp diamond ring Richard Burton bought her -- sold for almost $9 million. The pearl was mounted onto a specially commissioned diamond-and-ruby Cartier necklace.

The 33.19-carat Krupp ring is iconic, and experts have rated it potentially flawless.

A diamond tiara given to Taylor by her husband, Mike Todd, estimated at $80,000 pre-auction brought in a surprising $4.2 million.

The Taj Mahal, an Indian diamond and jade pendant sold for $8.8 million. Its initial estimate was a range of $300,000 – $500,000. An emerald and diamond necklace went for $6.1 million.

And the sale of the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond fetched $8.8 million more, capping a spectacular night of bidding that included other jewelry.

The auction continues through Friday with sales of clothing and film memorabilia.

More than 400 people filled the bidder seats and more than a dozen Christie’s staffers were on the phone with buyers. Before the bidding started, the auction house played a two-minute video showing clips from some of Taylor’s movies, including “Giant,” “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.”

Gold futures down on profit-taking, global cues

Gold futures prices fell by 0.54% to Rs 28,716 per 10 grams on Wednesday, tracking a weak trend overseas as
a stronger dollar reduced the appeal of the precious metal as an investment option.
In addition, subdued demand in the domestic spot market at prevailing levels put pressure on gold prices in
futures trade.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in February fell by Rs 155, or 0.54%, to Rs 28,716 per 10
grams, with an open interest for 3,175 lots.
In a similar fashion, the metal for delivery in far-month April shed Rs 156, or 0.53%, to Rs 29,019 per 10
grams, with a trading volume of 85 lots.
Market analysts said besides profit-booking by speculators following sluggish demand at existing higher levels in the spot market and reports of a weakening global trend mainly led to fall in gold prices at futures trade here.

However, weakness in the rupee, which slumped to a fresh record low of Rs 53.75 per dollar in early trade

today, capped the losses.
Meanwhile, gold fell by 2.07% to an almost seven-week low of US $ 1,630.90 an ounce in Singapore.

Keep Walking For Good Health

The Organs of your body have their sensory touches at the bottom of your foot,
if you massage these points you will find relief from aches and pains
as you can see the heart is on the left foot.
Typically they are shown as points and arrows to show which organ it connects to.
It is indeed correct since the nerves connected to these organs terminate here.
This is covered in great details in Acupressure studies
God created our body so well.
He made us walk so that we will always be pressing these pressure points and thus
keeping these organs activated at all times.
So, keep walking..

It took James Cameron just 17 days to take $1bn (£640m) at the box office with his 3D blue-skinned aliens in the film Avatar – but now he has been trumped by a very different set of virtual fighters.

The latest instalment of the video game series Call of Duty has become the fastest-selling entertainment product of all time, hitting $1bn in sales through retailers in just 16 days, seeing off the latest Harry Potter film – which took 17 days to hit the billion dollar mark in August – and leaving Cameron's other commercial triumph Titanic, which took three months to pass the billion-dollar mark, in the dust.

Activision Blizzard, based in California, said yesterday that the latest in its mega-selling franchise, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 had notched up $400m in sales within 24 hours of launching on 8 November.

"Call of Duty as an entertainment franchise has made an indelible mark on popular culture," said Bobby Kotick, the company's CEO. "Call of Duty is now amongst that rarified group of sustained franchises like Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and the National Football League that attract or engage tens of millions of people every year or every new release."

Modern Warfare 3's 2010 predecessor, Call of Duty: Black Ops, did not reach the $1bn sales mark until almost two months after its launch.

Modern Warfare 3 depicts a war declared on the US and western Europe by Russian ultranationalists. The games – in which a player takes the part of a combatant in the conflict – received critical acclaim and made $775m in its first five days.

In its review, the Guardian said: "Even Hollywood couldn't afford this. Players pitch up to one bombed-out landmark after another, blowing up what isn't already destroyed before moving on in search of the villainous Vladimir Makarov. It's as ridiculous and exhilarating as ever … Essentially more of the same, then, but that's precisely what the developer set out to do – and what all those fans wanted."

But there were complaints from some gamers that the title did not innovate on previous instalments.

The sales figures of Modern Warfare 3 are not the only success story for this franchise. The game was released alongside a dedicated social gaming network entitled Call of Duty: Elite, which already boasts six million subscribers.

Activision reported last month that profits tripled year-on-year in the three months to the end of September – figures which exclude the Modern Warfare 3 sales figures.

Intel processor

Intel Corporation revealed today several significant design features for the company's 2011 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processor family at the Intel Developer Forum. The new and enhanced features will further extend Intel's chip performance and battery life leadership, and add a number of visually related features built right into the chips.

Codenamed "Sandy Bridge," the chips will be based on Intel's first new "visibly smart" micro-architecture produced on the company's cutting-edge manufacturing factories, or "fabs," at 32-nanometer (NM is a billionth of a meter) process technology with second- generation high-k metal gate transistors.

"The way people and businesses are using computers is evolving at an explosive rate, fueling demand for an even more powerful and visually appealing experience," said Dadi Perlmutter, executive vice president and general manager of the Intel Architecture Group. "Our upcoming 2nd Generation Intel Core processor family represents the biggest advance in computing performance and capabilities over any previous generation. In addition to offering these features inside Intel-based laptops, we plan to scale these advances across our server data center and embedded computing product portfolio."

The processor family will include a new "ring" architecture that allows the built-in processor graphics engine to share resources such as cache, or a memory reservoir, with the processor's core to increase a device's computing and graphics performance while maintaining energy efficiency.

The 2nd Generation Intel Core processor also includes an enhanced version of Intel® Turbo Boost Technology. This feature automatically shifts or reallocates processor cores and processor graphics resources to accelerate performance, tailoring a workload to give users an immediate performance boost when needed.

Laptops and PCs powered by the 2nd Generation Intel Core processor family are expected to be available early next year.

New Visual Experience - Visibly Smart
Intel's new processor graphics delivers enhanced visual features focused on the areas where most users are computing today:  HD video, 3-D, mainstream gaming, multi-tasking and online socializing and multimedia.

To obtain and view video faster, Perlmutter demonstrated hardware accelerated video editing using the architecture's dedicated silicon for media processing, which allows users to quickly convert video to other formats.

The 2011 chips also come with Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX). AVX delivers improved performance, rich functionality and the ability to better manage, rearrange and sort data. A new 256-bit instruction set accelerates floating point intensive applications such as digital photo editing and content creation.

Intel also demonstrated a dual processor, next-generation Intel® Xeon® processor server running Vidyo* video conferencing software that utilizes the 32 threads available on the system, and takes advantage of the AES New Instructions set (AESNI). Next-generation Xeon™ processors for 2 socket servers and workstations run 8 cores and 16 threads per processor and are on schedule for production in the second half of 2011.
